6 Months and Several Firsts

Katelynn turned 6 month old last Saturday! Boy time is flying fast with her. And it seems we've had a lot of "firsts" in the last couple of weeks. We thought we'd try the swing at the park the other day. Can you tell it was a gorgeous bright sunny day (a Seattle rarity)? Dad is giving her a push...
I think she likes it!
We also started giving her food she can feed herself, which she thinks is great. Here she is enjoying a teething biscuit.
Those things make an incredible mess!
And in honor of those rare sunny days, I tried to take her to play in a water fountain, but she was not thrilled. I think she needed a nap, because she just cried every time I tried to set her down.
A couple days (and a new swimsuit) later, we tried again at the Greenlake wading pool with her best friends Samuel and Liam.
It took a while to warm up to the idea, but eventually she really enjoyed herself.

The Extraordinary Day

And now for the photo retelling of last Friday: Adoption Day!

We stood around in the hall for a while waiting for our lawyer to arrive and for the courtroom to open. We kept the bib on 'til the last minute so she didn't spit up on her pretty dress, which by the way was a gift from Anna and JT before we even knew we were getting a girl .
Katelynn found someone's purse to chew on while we were waiting for our names to be called in the courtroom waiting area.
Here we are in front of the judge taking an oath. This would have been easier if I was faster at determining my left from my right!
We are so grateful to our friends and family who could join us! Lisa, Nate, Bill, Mike, my brother JT, Wendy, Sarah, and Diesel. And many many thanks to Jenn who is taking all of these photos.
The judge let us take a photo with him after he granted our petition to adopt miss Kate.
We had to wait around afterwards for about half an hour while our lawyer filed the paperwork.
My brother rocks because he drove all the way from Montana to spend the weekend with us. Here we are outside of the courthouse.
We had a party at our apartment club house to celebrate that night. Lots of pink and brown balloons, paper products, etc. I'm not quite sure how Albertson's managed to get the capital G in our last name, but not capitalize the F. And best present of the day: in the time between the courthouse and the party, our friend Jenn (the photographer) printed and framed this photo that I posted earlier!
It's really hard to find a group photo where everyone looks great, but here we all are celebrating Miss Katelynn Joy FitzGerald.

Finalization

This past Friday, June 13th at 9 am, we went before a judge to finalize our adoption of miss Kate! It was pretty short and sweet, but our little girl is now officially Katelynn Joy FitzGerald. Here's a pictures of us outside afterwards. More photos to come very soon...

Proficient

Now that Katelynn has mastered the skill of sitting up, it's all she wants to do! She's decided she doesn't care for her car seat anymore because that requires reclining. So as long as she's not sleeping, we take her out of it everywhere we go. And that also means no more snap-n-go stroller for us (you know, the convenient one you just pop the car seat into). Thanks to Grandpa Ben and Grandma Sue, Miss Kate now has a grown up stroller that she gets to cruise around in. Despite her face in this photo, she really does like it!
And of course she wants to sit up in high chairs and shopping carts now. It's funny how small she looks in both of those. Here she is enjoying Cafe India.
And doing some grocery shopping.
And today's treat to honor her new skill: a bath in the big tub (not that reclining infant seat)! She loved playing the water and chasing after her rubber duckies.
She didn't even mind when I poured water over her head to rinse the soap out.
And she has a couple other new skills this week: playing peek-a-boo and spitting. Sweet potatoes just got a lot more fun. Uh...
